General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University was initially established in 1935 and is directly affiliated with Ningxia Medical University. It is a comprehensive tertiary-A hospital, integrating medical treatment, education, and scientific research. 【Historical Evolution】 The hospital was initially established by the Ningxia Health Experimental Office (the predecessor of the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region Health Department), served as the Ningxia Provincial Hospital. In 1951, it was renamed as Ningxia Provincial People’s Hospital; in 1954, it was renamed as Gansu Provincial Second People’s Hospital; in 1958, it was renamed as Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region People’s Hospital; in 1962, it was renamed as Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region First People’s Hospital; in 1973, it was renamed as Ningxia Medical College Affiliated Hospital; in 2008, it was renamed as Ningxia Medical University Affiliated Hospital; and in 2010, it was renamed as General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University. 【Basic Profile】 The hospital covers an area of 248.22 mu and has a construction area of 324,346 square meters. It has three directly affiliated branches: the Cardio-cerebrovascular Disease Hospital, the Oncology Hospital, and the Stomatology Hospital. In 2012, the hospital group of General Hospital of Ningxia Medical University was established, and it currently has 48 member hospitals. The hospital has 3,500 open beds, and its medical service volume and efficiency rank first in Ningxia. In 2024, the hospital provided a total of 3.616 million outpatient consultations, admitted 210,000 patients, and performed 90,000 surgeries. The average length of hospital stay has been reduced to 5.96 days, leading the region. For last six consecutive years, the hospital has maintained an A+ grade in China’s National Performance Assessment of Tertiary Public Hospitals, with its best performance peaking at 58th place. 【Talent Quality】The hospital currently has 5,802 staff members, including 4,952 health professionals.
